International Summer Gashuku - September 2014

7.00am start for the 'International Gashuku' with Karateka and Instructors from all over the UK .

 

The senior UK instructors this year include sensei....
Paul Filenczuk Steve Marriott Kevin Leigh Ivor Garner Carlos Joachim  Colin Needham
5th dan 4th dan  6th dan  6th dan 2nd dan 5th dan

Sensei Leigh starts the training with Kanku-dai the traditional start to Gashuku, watching the sun rise over the North sea....

 

The students were split into groups for Kata and basic training....

 

 

 

 9.00am

The students were put into 3 teams for the weekend events...

9am and we walk to Winterton Valley where we start the beach training

Warm up with team games on the Winterton valley dunes..

 

Team beach Volleyball begins...

 

 

 

 

To the amusement of the locals beach training begins...

 

 

 

The infamous 'King of the Hill'.... where teams try  to capture the others flag...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The North sea extremely inviting and warm this year....

 

 

Kata, sit-ups, press-ups, piggy back fights, wheel barrow races... the fun never ceases!!

Kata is very difficult against the waves....

 

Sumo....

 

The team pyramid building contest begins. The higher the better....

 

 

 

 

Another excellent morning training over and now the traditional rush to the showers

 Saturday Afternoon...

With the morning training over we head to the Great Yarmouth dojo

 

   Grades were divided into 6 groups with the senior instructors teaching each section...

The Kata event was followed by team Handball, Football and a special request again from Manchester dojo for 'Netball'

 

After the dojo the swimming gala, events included normal races plus the 'imaginative dive' and 'beat the sensei's relay'...

 Saturday Evening....

The Saturday evening BBQ is always a great way to unwind from the days training..

The Sunday hike begins in Winterton on Sea..

 

 

 

The sand castle building contest begins...

 

 

Followed by the sensei Leigh treasure hunt...

 

 Sunday Afternoon...

Knife defence before the games begin...

 The Welly-wanging tournament begins

The team results: 3rd place Simon captain of Green team, 2nd place Ben of Red team & 1st place Danny of the Blue team

Thomas is presented with the Hard as Nails award...

Sensei Leigh is presented with a special award for all his hard work and excellent teaching by the other sensei's...

Gashuku finishes with the awards for various achievements and honours earned over the weekend...

Gashuku 2014 Pink Belt
