International Summer Gashuku - September 2012

The senior UK instructors this year include sensei....

5th dan 4th dan  6th dan  5th dan 5th dan  6th dan

The International Gashuku with Karateka and instructors from the UK and SKIF Czech Republic.....

Gashuku begins at 6.30am Saturday morning with Kanku-dai and the rising sun coming up over the north sea.....

 

A few circuits of the field before we separate the classes.....

 

The students were split into groups for kata. Gojushiho-dai and Gojushiho-sho for dan grades.....

    

 The Kata Bassai-sho was taught to brown belts.....

 

 The junior grades covered Heian Sandan.....

The morning session finishes with Sumo wrestling.....

 9.00am

With the morning training over we head to the Great Yarmouth dojo.....

Grades were divided into 6 groups with the senior instructors teaching each section in turn.....

 The students were taught a varying array of Jiu-ippon techniques throughout the morning.....

 

 

 

The students were put into 4 teams for the weekend events, their first task was to create and be judged on their team Kata.....

 

 

The Kata event was followed by team Handball, Football and again a special request from Manchester dojo for 'Netball'

 

The morning session was followed by the swimming gala which took place between the 4 teams.....

 

 

The events include all the normal races plus the 'imaginative dive' and 'beat the sensei's relay'.....
 Saturday Afternoon...

1.30 pm and we assemble at the camp-site to walk to the beach.....

 

We walk to Winterton Valley where we start the afternoon training.....

   

 

Basics on the Winterton valley dunes.....

The beach volley ball tournament begins.. as sensei Needham digs for treasure.....

 

 

 

 

The infamous 'King of the Hill', teams have to capture the others flag....

 

    

Off to the sea to fill the buckets....

 

 

To the amusement of the locals beach training begins.....

 

 

The North sea a very pleasant 9 degrees.....

 

 

 

   

   

The team pyramid building contest begins. The higher the better.....

 

 

 

 

Another excellent afternoon training over and now the traditional rush to the showers.....

 
 Saturday Evening....

The Saturday evening BBQ is always a great way to unwind from the days training.....

After the BBQ we retire to the Dolphin bar where we discover the sensei's in their Saturday night gear !!

 Sunday Morning....
 

The Sunday hike begins to the Seal colony on Horsey beach....

 

 

We break for a 45 minute lesson to wake every one up.....

    

    

 

Over 200 seals greeted us at the Horsey colony.....

The sand castle building contest begins.....

 

 

Followed by the sensei Garner treasure hunt.....

Gashuku finishes with the awards for various achievements and honours earned over the weekend.....

A team presentation of  the interesting artefacts found that morning.....

A very special award this year to Sensei Leigh rewarding him for all his hard work and dedication to Gashuku over the last 14 years
